Group claims Rick Perry used public money for private trips
AUSTIN, TX – The English writer Oscar Wilde is credited with saying ‘no good deed goes unpunished.’
And that’s particularly true when Texas politics are in play.
Recent published reports have blown a lot of smoke around the assertions that Gov. Perry has spent millions of dollars of public money to advance his political career and fund a lavish lifestyle of the rich and famous.
And according to so-called foes of Perry, he’s been dipping into the TexasOne fund to pay for his gallivanting around the globe.
The TexasOne program sits in the office of the governor and provides most of the economic development funds used by the governor to market the state of Texas.
Members include the Greater Houston Partnership along with many of the state’s biggest corporations, and cities that use sales taxes to promote economic development.
It’s been around in one form or another since 1987, through Bill Clements, Ann Richards and George Bush.
