Perry opens his mouth,

and it's open season on Texas, yet again.

The dynamics of DU can be rather interesting at times. Another republican governor can do something similarly stupid, and unless they are a state in "the south" it doesn't suddenly become open season on that particular state.

I do what I can to educate the worst offenders, but I get the impression that the rest either have my comments on ignore, or refuse to read anything that counters their ignorant statements. Better to remain uneducated, I guess...

Sorry for the rant. Sometimes it gets to me around here

1. Please list some ignorant statements, then all could benefit from an education.

2. Okay, from the OP in question (in LBN)

http://www.democraticunderground.com/1014396592
Umm, isn't Austin (home of the University of Texas flagship campus) politically the San Francisco of the Lone Star State?

My answer: Yes, because little Austin is a tiny island of blue in a raging ocean of red. At least, that's the continuing ignorant perception of the whole of Texas by too many DUers.

My reply: First off, I would ask you to educate yourself, and stop calling us "red states":

http://politicker.com/2012/11/the-purple-election-map/

Next, I would ask you to look at what the various universities and tech centers here are doing. I highly question your "virtual innovation desert" comment. And yes, I listened to you segment on that. It's not good enough to back up your comment here.

Wasn't Reagan from California, anyway?

Post by LeftinTX (I'm assuming by the content of this post that they also don't like it in Texas) - http://www.democraticunderground.com/1014396592#post12
Most Californians who move here don't like it

The weather, the schools are the main complaints.

The weather is horrible. The scenery doesn't compare. There is a horrific shortage of parks and natural areas. It's not good for outdoors types.

This does not include politics.

The replies to this post are just as ignorant.
My impression I've gotten far too many times by the bashers is that they hate our state because they show up expecting to hate it, and are antagonistic with people. And they handily receive their self-fulfilling results.

Now then, as you don't bother to tell me where you're from in your profile, would you mind doing so in this thread? I want to know what state to bash in retaliation

3. I see a state filled with many Blue Hearts and I am one.

Return to your state and bash the Red Hearts there for me.

4. I do that already,

though I don't need to "return" anywhere. I'm in Texas, in case you didn't read my profile.

However, I will forever speak out against those supposed Blue Hearts that will bash Texas for no other reason than "because it's Texas" and the assumption that everyone here is a repub.

6. My post about the Texas weather stands

With regards to schools, I meant K-12

I moved here 30 years ago and still can't get used to the heat.
We also do not have enough parks and natural areas for outdoor lovers.

I'm comparing this to California, particularly the coast, which has an ideal climate.

My husband is born and raised in Texas and he tolerates the heat just fine, but I can't get used to it.

Arizona and Nevada have also recruited Californians.

For those who don't mind our Texas weather, I envy you!!

9. Weather is one of those things that you acclimate to

or eventually so. I guess high humidity is difficult for some, just as low-humidity is next to impossible for me (I hate static!) I often find the interior of Texas "dry" while others are complaining about the high humidity in the same area

Thank you for replying. I just get frustrated with the bashing any time Parry speaks or some other not-so-great event happens here. I don't see California getting bashed for the likes of Reagan or Nixon, yet both did as much damage to the country as the Bushes. I also don't think we should bash any region. If DU-ers can forgive California for Reagan and Nixon, why not Texas for Bush and the rest? And it's not like we single-handedly put them into the office of the President!

8. Thanks :)

I really do think that many come here with an attitude, and when they get an attitude back, they then think we're all just as bad as they were initially

Now if we can just get Parry to walk around with duct-tape over his mouth! (someone call graywarrior!)
