9. a play on letters
|
Hi,
First of all I am not defending the person with the license plate. However having said that, here is the way it works. When you apply for a personalized license plate, you have to give them several choices. You do not always get your first choice & many people will put "a play on letters or words" to get close to the plate they want. The most famous example is "Hook Em'. All Texans know what that means & the person with that license plate acquired it in the 1960's when personalized plates were first offered by the state. One of the examples of a play on letters is "HQQK Em" , there are many variations of the plate since there are thousands of Texas Longhorn University fans. More than likely there is a person with the correct spelling of "secede" on their license plate driving around Texas. I am the owner of a personalized plate & was lucky to get exactly what I wanted & did not need to resort to a play on words. Now the trick fellow DU'ers is for you to keep an eye out for the real "secede" license plate & post the photo here, then we can really make fun of the idiot that has the plate. |
