Texas poll: Romney leads Obama by 14, Cruz up by 15 over Sadler

On the eve of the second presidential debate, the presidential contest in Texas is NO CONTEST.

A YouGov poll of likely voters in Texas, released late this afternoon, showed Republican nominee Mitt Romney running far ahead of President Obama, 55 percent to 41 percent. A month ago, YouGov showed Romney up by 12 percentage points in Texas.

Obama would be in the lead, however, if

Only voters under the age of 40 cast ballots.

If West Texas (where Romney leads, 76 percent to 19 percent) and East Texas (where the Republican is ahead, 66 percent to 25 percent) were lopped off of the state.

If only women were permitted to vote. Obama leads among Texas women, 50 percent to 45 percent, while men just hate the Democratic opponent, favoring Romney, 65 percent to 33 percent.

Next to Republicans, old people are the most anti-Obama. Among voters 65 and older, Romney has a 67 percent to 31 percent edge.

The younger people in Texas support the Democrats. That's good news.

1. 41 means Obama only needs 9 to win Texas...maybe Obama will end up winning!

55 to 41 is doable. As that adds to 96, and there are 3rd parties, all one needs is 48, which is just 7 points away

if not now, soon.

The great state of Lyndon Johnson can again turn blue.

2. He lost Texas by 12 last time around

-2% off of his total in every state compared to 2008 would definently be an acceptable outcome to me.

3. Good gawd! I don't fit my own demo.

Born, raised and living in west Texas. White 60 year old male. Obama all the way.

WTF has happened while I've been living?
