Anyone ridden Amtrak in Texas lately?

I'm thinking of giving the Heartland Flyer a try. Fort Worth to OKC, $74 round trip for 1 adult.

1. Amtak has seats typical mass transportation from what I experience monthly.

It saves me money and besides it is what civilized countries have done for more than 150 years. Republicans who reject civilization would do away with passenger trains. I support Amtrak everywhere they have a line.

2. Isn't Amtrak a socialist invasion of that state?

I would not be surprised if they called out the Texas Rangers to forcibly stop the trains.

3. Rode Amtrak in Missouri

From Kansas City to the state Capitol in Jefferson City and back. It was better than driving. We plan to go down to St. Louis next time.

4. Check out the OKC station and what's around it.

Check the schedule to see when the train gets in.

Are you dumped off in a part of town that you don't want to be in, especially if it's late at night?

Also, check out what time the station closes...

6. Train gets in at 9:39pm every night.

The station in OKC is right downtown but is unattended. There are hotels only a block or two from the station. Train leaves next morning at 8:25am from OKC, so I'm just going to go up and back.

5. I ride it

from Austin to Longview. It's cheaper than driving my pickup and more comfortable. I rode it once to L.A. We left Austin at night and went to San Antonio where we spent the night there in the rail yard and pulled out around dawn. Arrived in L.A. a bit early, had to wait around in the station for my ride. The station was beautiful and the food was superb.

8. A friend of mine took it recently from West Texas to AZ

and they loved it. They couldn't have been more pleased with the experience.

9. i took Amtrak for the first time a few months ago

Round trip Austin to Dallas and back. It was wonderful. The seats were comfy. I would advise taking a blanket, the AC was really cranking on my trip. Plus the swaying made me sleepy. I cant wait to take another trip.
