Joe sez: I recently got an interesting email from a library in Texas.
In short, they're setting up their own internal check-out system for ebooks, and are seeking to buy ebooks directly from authors and publishers.
I asked if they wouldn't mind doing a guest blog discussing some of the issues libraries are now facing with the rising popularity of ebooks. They graciously replied, and here it is...
Mike and Linda: Thanks to Joe for giving us a chance to talk to you about libraries and eBooks! We’re Michael Saperstein and Linda Stevens, librarians from Harris County Public Library, a large public library system in Houston, Texas. I love Joe's blog, and do aspire to be an indie-published author someday. He makes plenty of sense with regards to self-publishing as well as the bad practices of the big ("legacy"
publishers, as pointed out in this blog post. I was quite pleasantly surprised to see the librarians featured were from the Harris County Public Library system. How cool is that?

Would love to see that spread. I would also like to see libraries lend the ebook readers out. I didn't see that in the blog post. I think you should be able to check one out.
Better yet, I would love the schools to just give them to kids straight up. I know that there would be a lot of griping about which model/make. That's going to happen anyhow if it's not already. Let the fight for ebook readers in the public schools begin!
