Former staffer for Texas Rep. Joe Barton pleads guilty to child pornography charge
A former staff member for U.S. Rep. Joe Barton, R-Ennis, pleaded guilty Wednesday to receiving child pornography, authorities announced.
James Maines Jr., 54, of Mesquite pleaded guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge David Horan in Dallas to one count of knowingly receiving child pornography, the FBI and U.S. Attorney John Parker said.
Maines also admitted that he tried to forward five images of child porn from his personal email account to his U.S. House of Representatives account and that he had received those and other images through the Internet, the FBI and Parker said. Some images found on his computer were downloaded as early as 2004.
Maines was a deputy district director for Barton, who represents parts of Ellis, Navarro and Tarrant counties including Arlington, Fort Worth, Grand Prairie and Waxahachie. He worked for Barton until December 2014, Politico reported.
