Update: Dallas DA may remain out of office longer than announced

DALLAS – News 8 has learned Dallas County District Attorney Susan Hawk may be extending her leave of absence.

Three weeks ago, Hawk announced she was taking one month of unpaid leave to deal with issues related to serious depression. Hawk was expected back at the courthouse next Tuesday, when the leave ends.

But now, it may be longer before she returns to the courthouse.

A source close to the situation says Hawk will be meeting with her doctors soon to determine when she can return to work. The source said there is no firm date for Hawk's return, and that she remains in an inpatient facility getting treatment for depression.

I live in Dallas and I vote in every election, no matter how small it is. When Susan Hawk was elected, it was more of a vote against Craig Watkins, her opponent and previous DA. Her ads didn't even make sense. I am a loyal Democrat and I just skipped voting for the DA because I wasn't going to cast a vote for Watkins or for her.

I feel very bad for Ms. Hawk and hope she gets the help she needs to heal. But as a voter I am totally pissed off against her. She has not been honest with the citizens of Dallas. She lied that she was having back surgery while she was in drug rehab when she went missing during the campaign. Once she won, she acted strange, firing her loyal employees, even accused one of breaking in her house. Then she took a leave and turned the running of the DA's office over to her assistant but wouldn't tell anyone where she was. It took over a month for the citizens of Dallas to find out what the hell was going on.

She has been out now for almost two months and needs to be out longer. It is obvious that she is a very sick lady and should not be coming back to the high powered job of running the DA's office in one of the largest cities in the US.

The right thing for her to do is to resign.
