TEA finds Donna ISD omitted $1 million in financial reports
The Texas Education Agency found that the Donna school district omitted more than $1 million in its financial statements last year, prompting the termination of the districts auditor and an internal investigation of the business office.
School district officials received a letter from the TEA on May 22, concerning the districts compliance review for fiscal year 2014. The letter stated there were three findings including discrepancies in financial statements, and a deficit in their fund balance, according to the districts Chief Financial Officer David Robledo.
There are three levels of errors, Robledo said last week. A finding is like a failure, and is the most severe.
One of the major findings involved $1.1 million used to purchase new buses that were not accounted for in their annual report, board member Nick Castillo said.
