Rosenberg issues voluntary evacuation as Brazos water rises

The City of Rosenberg issued a voluntary evacuation notice for some parts of the city Thursday as heavy rains from Tropical Depression Bill continued to cause the Brazos River to rise.

Rain water from north of the Houston area is making its way downstream causing river levels to swell. A representative from the Rosenberg police said there was no flooding yet in the city and the evacuation notice was a precautionary measure.

The river is projected to hit about 50 feet at the Richmond gauge tomorrow afternoon, which is major flood leve,l said Lach Mullen, a spokesman for the Fort Bend County Office of Emergency Management.

High-risk areas along the Brazos that have already been dealing with floods in the aftermath of the Memorial Day weekend rainfall could see more flooding.
