SAN ANTONIO An excavator driven by repair crews fell into a large hole created by a water main break in the middle of Essex Street early Monday morning on the East Side.
The tractor, which was being driven on the street during repairs, wasn't significantly damaged and the operator was not injured, said Anne Hayden, San Antonio Water Systems spokeswoman. Hayden said she believes a tow truck moved the equipment back to level ground.
Crews will be working throughout Monday in the 300 block of Essex near Hackberry Street to repair the 12-inch concrete pipe that broke sometime around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, she said.
The main break affected about 60 homes and SAWS officials are distributing bottled water to people who have lost water service, she said.
