(18,063 posts)Forget red and blue, Obama coming to Houston for the green
President Barack Obama's visit to Houston on Friday does not signal that one of the reddest of red states is about to turn blue, or even purple. What it does signal is that a Lone Star foray is invariably worthwhile, even for Democrats. Texas is where the money is.
According to Mark Jones, a political scientist at Rice University, Texas is the No. 2 donor state in the nation.
The Obama campaign is well aware of the Texas treasure trove. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, the president has raised $3.4 million in Texas for his re-election, more than any of the four remaining GOP presidential candidates has raised in the state.
Looks like Texas continues to be a huge ATM for national political campaigns. We put a lot of money in national campaigns and we still lag with any national party support.

(111,978 posts)I was out of town for most of the day, so I'm glad that you picked up the ball and ran with it. The photos are excellent and it's great that the president was successful in raising funds. He certainly relates to the general population much more than any of the Republican candidates.
