Mayor Lee Leffingwell has announced a news conference Wednesday afternoon to discuss Austins consideration as a potential host of the 2016 Democratic National Convention.
Leffingwells office said in a news release that he recently received an exciting and flattering request from the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
According to the press release, Leffingwell has been asked to lead the charge in what could be a potential bid by the city. Leffingwell will discuss specifics in the letter from Wasserman Schultz at the 1:15 meeting at City Hall, as well as any decisions made regarding the proposal.

[font color=green]The comments are hilarious as conservatives complain about how much the convention would cost the city, which is a complete falsehood. If anything, this shows how much conservatives hate small businesses in Austin and are willing to deny them the opportunity to take advantage of the economic windfall.[/font]

(112,102 posts)However, a couple of new hotels are in construction near the convention center and it should be easy to find entertainment/activities within a 5 to 6 block radius. The jogging trails near the lake are also readily accessible.

Jerald Nadler may have to stay inside.

(112,102 posts)There isn't a large enough venue or a light-rail line which are requirements to host the convention. I posted another thread in the Texas Group with the update.
