Memorial service held in South Side to remember euthanized dog



PITTSBURGH —

A memorial service was held Sunday in the South Side for a dog that was euthanized after allegedly being stolen from a terminally ill neighbor’s Spring Hill yard.

The service was held at the Hot Metal Bridge, where those who attended threw flowers into the Monongahela River for the Siberian husky named Thor.

Thor’s owner, Mark Boehler, had been looking for him since he disappeared in November, only to learn he had been euthanized in his neighbor’s home in February.

That neighbor, Giselle Paris, is scheduled to appear in court on April 24.

This is one of the saddest stories I have ever seen on local news. Thor's owner is dying of cancer and wanted to see his dog one more time. The woman who took the dog had him euthanized and is facing charges. Some kind-hearted Pittsburghers helped the owner say goodbye to his best friend. More at link:

1. There are going to be fights in the DA's office to handle this case.....

This was a front page, above the fold news items. Most murders do NOT get that treatment. Thus Assistant District Attorneys will all want to handle this case, it gets they name on the front page and in an article that people will read.

As to the neighbor who took the dog, she better be prepared to be charged the max fine and max jail time, no Judge will give her less, for it is front page news.

In some ways I pity the woman, for will be railroaded. On the other hand anyone who takes a dying person's pet and kills it, deserves what she gets.

2. She has received such negative press.

Her cousin was on TV attempting to explain her side of the story. There are always two sides and she is entitled to her day in court. They might have a hard time finding an impartial jury, considering how much publicity the case has generated!

I hope the dog's owner lives long enough to see justice, though. I was so heart-broken for him.
