PA. Supreme Court Passes the Buck Down to Lower Court Judge to Decide Upon Voter ID

http://www.wfmz.com/news/Pa-Supreme-Court-wants-review-of-voter-ID-access/-/121458/16649552/-/pre4ooz/-/index.html

The decision appears to open the door to delaying the implementation of PA. voter ID law until after the Nov. election. In a 4-2 decision, the Supreme Court gave the Commonwealth Court judge specific directives to stop the implementation of the law if he feels that voters are having difficulties getting proper ID in time for the election. This is the same Commonwealth Court judge who previously upheld the law, but expressed reservations.

2. The nearest PennDot driver license center to me is 17 miles away

They are open 5 days/week and have no evening hours. I checked the web site to see how convenient this would be for people. Not impressed at all at the state's efforts. The VotesPA website info directs you to the PennDot site and that site says they do not publish the hours or times of their centers!! So I guess you are s.o.l. if you show up and they are closed. I don't see how they have to study whether this is being implemented properly or not. A couple clicks of the mouse can tell you that.

3. Whoa...

...don't know what to think of this. Really, a decision needs to be made NOW!

4. After reading the actual decision

and reading some educated opinions on it, my impression is that it's likely that it'll be put on hold until after the election.

5. What is the freaking point

of even having a Supreme Court if they are going to pass the buck backwards?

6. What is the point indeed.

I guess that these 7 (now 6) justices needed a job so they just set up this kangaroo court system. I am truly baffled.

7. I'm not as hopeful as most of the commentary I've read.

I don't know why we should expect the lower court judge to do something he wasn't willing to do before. It seems to me his previous decision was political hackery so I don't know why he won't do it again.

10. I agree 100% with your comment.

The lower court judge already decided. Why in the world would he decide differently the second time around?

8. This is so disappointing.

It will just add to the confusion and keep more people from the polls. People don't know whether or not to get an ID, what they need, etc. Way too many will just say the hell with it. And who could blame them?

I really expected them to stop implementing the process until after the November elections.

9. the Democratic Party lawyers

would have to prove that it's difficult for the elderly and disabled to get state id in a short period of time. Many of them have no form of transportation and other factors...
