PA. Refuses to Release Info. Requested by US Dept. of Justice on Voter ID Law

http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/local/state/pennsylvania-balks-on-federal-voter-id-request-649843/

The Corbett Administration has told the U.S. Department of Justice to mind its own business and not get involved in voter rights issues in PA.

The DOJ requested information from the State to aid in its probe of the law, but the State is refusing to provide the information.

The Corbett Administration said the DOJ has political motivations. I'm shocked just shocked that politics would enter into an attempt to keep people from voting.

If you have to take away people's voting rights in order to win an election, that means your ideas must really suck.

2. Only certain states are subject to federal intervention

Under the Federal Civil Rights Act, only certain states that had a history of racial discrimination in voting are subject to direct intervention by the Feds under that law. Therefore, the Feds were able to stop N. Carolina's voter ID law, but probably can't stop PA's law.

The remaining hope in PA. is that the sometimes-renegade Chief Justice of the State Supreme Court will come out on the side of voters and cast the deciding vote to at least delay the implementation of the law until next year. That will provide more time for voters, county election offices and state agencies to get their act together.

One recent study found that the law may actually obstruct many senior citizens from voting Republican.

Another study in todays' news said that a much higher percentage of 19 year olds do not have driver's licenses, compared to past years. The study said that is because more of them rely upon social media instead of traveling to friends' houses, and because many cannot afford a car because of the economy.

6. Politically motivated??? Go figure.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander, Gov. Corbett. Like we haven't already heard the true motivation from Turzai already.

7. I can't think of any reason for this other than obstructionism.

It wouldn't be that difficult to give the requested information to the Justice Department. This is Corbett trying to run out the clock.

Anyone know what recourse the Justice Department has? Is there some way they can force this issue?

8. I just cannot figure out this state

Blatantly unfair is O.K.
Even when someone comes out and SAYS that this is to get the repukes elected.
I got hurt at work and I got fired.
It's legal here in Pa.
I dont know how many people have told me it's illegal to fire an
injured worker, but it is legal. I lost my seniority, my vacation days AND my kids insurance.
I understand that they cannot be on the hook for my insurance premiums,
but god damn, at least give me the option to pay for it under their group policy,
so my kids will have insurance.
I have several bad teeth and no way to get them fixed.
I cannot eat, cannot chew properly. It SUCKS!

It's so god damned unfair.
I am going to get hired at a UNION shop on my next job.
As a matter of fact, I want to be a Union organizer.
I think that what happened to my family shouldnt happen to anyone else.

Sorry bout the rant, I just have alot on my mind lately.

9. Can't you get COBRA?

I'm pretty sure that under COBRA they have to let you continue under their group policy if you're willing to pay for it.
