The problem isn't the issuance of the photo ID, it's the cost and effort to get the supporting documents. I had those documents because I needed to get my passport years ago. It easily cost me $100 for the acceptable documentation and to expedite the delivery. If I didn't have a good income at the time it would have been a real punch in the gut to take time off work to get the job done. I can't believe people even here at DU don't understand that this is really a slap in the face to the working poor who want to have a say in how they're governed.

so they don't get them until after the election. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the DMV tries that tactic.

Or perhaps reduce the hours.
Budget concerns, don't you know.

And that's what costs the most. I had to pay $29.00 in 2004 for mine. Even though I had the original, Pa wouldn't accept it.

You need a certified copy with an embossed seal.

There are lots of older people born at home who do not have a birth certificate and hence will be disenfranchised.

I'm from small town central PA.

At least we have until Oct. 9th to get in front of this.

Here in the Pittsburgh area, you can go to Motor Square Garden in East Liberty, Penn Hills Shopping Center, or the Commerce Building at 7th and Smithfield Downtown.

Here's the page from the DMV with the requirements for new voter ID law. There is some provision for people who don't have birth certificates. At the bottom you can click on a list of locations.

They really are mean, greedy bullies. Well, let's not let 'em take our lunch money, kids.

I'm going to post it on my Facebook page . Also, I would like to take people that need ID down to our lame DMV office, if there is some way I can organize that.....that office is in Clarion and a 20 mile drive for me, but the hell with this state legislature and Governor! Oct. 9 will be here before we know it.

Stop in at the Obama Office in that block if you have any problems and they will help you through the process.

That's on top of the money he had to spend to get a certified copy of his 1915 birth certificate.
