The Corbett administration is now putting into effect the prohibition of people receiving food stamps/food assistance if they have non-retirement assets over a certain amount.
It will particularly hurt people saving money to pay for medical bills, college tuition or real estate taxes.
The sad thing is - it won't even save PA. any money. In fact, it will cost PA. money. That is because the federal govt. pays all of the costs for the food assistance benefit, but the state is responsible for most of the administrative costs. State staffing for the Dept. of Public Welfare has already been slashed and they don't have the personnel to enforce this new restriction.
