York city Schools have $19 million deficit - 90 positions to be cut, 2 schools to be closed

http://www.yorkdispatch.com/news/ci_20380596/york-city-schools-face-reality-about-19m-deficit

"The York City School District could go from a $19 million deficit to a $1 million surplus if it cuts more than 90 positions, including office and athletic staff.

The school board heard the cold, hard budget facts from James Duff, the district's business consultant, during a meeting Wednesday.

The district has been working to reduce its deficit next year, and, Duff said, will have to make some hard decisions to do that. "You have an opportunity to balance the budget, but it is at great peril," he said.

The district could gain close to $4.7 million in revenue with a 17 percent tax increase, Duff said. Another $3.1 million can be gained through salary and benefit reductions, he added."

1. Magic words - "benefit reductions".

Of course, we all know that "benefits" is code for "entitlements" in Republic world, especially when they're earned benefits.

Always the same plan.

2. The one place that benefits is usually extreme is in top administration.

In all likelihood they should consider whether superintendents and principals possibly have too much in wages considering that they already have it balanced in their benefits.
