Do any Oregon Du'ers remember the "Fallen Angels" singers?

They were based in Portland in the 1970's and 80's(at least). Their specialty was politically radical (and usually very funny) versions of holiday carols. I've been trying to find ways to get recordings of their songs, but nothing has turned up on the Web recently.

1. The Fallen Angel Choir.

They have a CD available on Amazon, "Still Fallen After All These Years," from 1996.

I remember them well!

2. Thanks for correcting me on the group's name.

I knew it was "Fallen Angels" something or another.

And thanks for the link.

Does the group still exist, to your knowledge?

5. They branched out into other things besides parodies of Christmas carols

I recall one in which one of the singers dressed up as Bill Gates and sand "Come Buy My Windows" (as a parody of Melissa Etheridge's "Come to My Window.")

6. Good to know.

they may have been the closest Portland ever got to an equivalent of the San Francisco Mime Troupe.

8. Melinda of the defunct Fallen Angel Choir surfacing!

Hi Ken, Blue, and everyone:
While googling for a copy of the old FAC video (I stupidly gave my last one away last year, thinking I had more..) up came Democratic Underground and this thread. Thanks for thinking of the old days!

I'm Melinda - the one who wrote and performed "Come Buy My Windows" along with a bunch of the other songs. After the FAC retired in 1996, I started a new political comedy music theatre troupe, BroadArts Theatre. We've been around now for 12 years, doing stage shows and concerts, still progressive (lots more than just Christmas parodies now), still radical, still getting into trouble. BroadArts has had a number of shows, including WonderBroads, about progressive women activists from Mother Jones and Susan B. Anthony to Dolores Huerta and bell hooks- The Babes and Broads who Broke the Rules! WonderBroads toured for 8 years on an off, and won the Oregon Book Award for Best Drama in 2000.

I'm just finishing my Master's on progressive comedy, (graduate June 15th!) then I hope on to teach while revitalizing BroadArts. Yes, my personal FB is Melinda E. Pittman (with the initial) and the BroadArts FB is Melinda Pittman- friend me!

I do have some of the old FAC CDs, cassette tapes (just what you need for your high technology), some of the Summer Angels Some Are Not! cassettes and CD, and then a bunch of newer BroadArts Theatre CDs.

Thanks again for thinking of us aging radicals- Friend me! If you're interested in performances and or appearances, we will start that up again in the fall of this year. Our website BroadArts.org is out of date, but that's a summertime project.

Keep on keeping on-
Cheers,
Melinda Pittman

There seem to be several "Melinda Pittman"s out there. Thanks, and again, thanks for resurfacing.

12. FB- yes be my friend!

The Melinda E. Pittman (with initial) is my personal FB, and the Melinda Pittman is our theatre company, BroadArts Theatre, which I and others founded after the Fallen Angel Choir folded. Yes friend me either or both places!! Nice to connect- re-connect with you.

BroadArts Theatre btw, motto is "Changing the World, One Joke at a Time." We have a couple of YouTubes- go to BroadArts007 to subscribe.
