Wow - Dems on the Wake School board said "Ta Ta" to Tea Party darling Tata!

http://www.wral.com/news/education/wake_county_schools/story/11591345/

"CARY, N.C. — The Wake County Board of Education's party-line vote to fire the school district’s superintendent less than two years into his four-year contract could have negative financial implications for the growing school system.

Wake County Board of Commissioners Chair Paul Coble blasted the "very partisan" decision to oust Tony Tata, raising concerns about funding the planned construction of up to 24 new schools and continued acrimony over student assignment.

"Will the county commission vote to give $1 billion to a school board that has no leadership and, at this point, has no real plan?" he said Tuesday, adding that he expects the board to overhaul its student assignment plan now that Tata is gone. "How can we possibly decide where we're going to put schools, build new schools, when there's no effective reassignment plan and there's no real leadership."

Board member John Tedesco, who said he was "fundamentally and 100 percent opposed" to firing Tata, also pointed to possible financial repercussions from the decision prior to the board's vote to approve a separation agreement in which Tata receives more than $250,000."

1. He was hired by the previous board & started running afoul of a families' group over

school re-assignment, busing, and school bonds.

Goldman said new Democratic board members are being "controlled" by Great Schools in Wake Coalition, a local group that is opposed to a new assignment plan that Tata implemented this year.

-- snip --

In addition to the three-year student assignment plan that Tata implemented – the board is looking to revise it for the upcoming school year – the school board also wants to campaign to sell bonds next year for new schools. Some in the political realm have already pledged to block those efforts if Tata is fired.

I rather imagine that the Democrats on the school board figured they were going to block the bonds anyway, so they decided to take on the battle under new leadership.

9. Del Burnes

Had a few conversations today that reminded those with political short term memory loss that Burnes was removed by the previous board. He got along just fine with any number of boards/coalitions etc for 2 decades.

btw. WRAL has a wacked poll, if anyone wants to vote.

Don't forget the Koch brothers money failed to keep the teabaggers on the board in last year's election.... so psssstttthhh to the cry babies

3. The Wake County School Board has more drama

than an afternoon soap opera. Glad the Dems are back in control there. As I recall, Tata had practically no prior experience in Education?

6. And the argument from Tedesco

that Tata should not be fired because of the money it would cost. His intentions are pure...not! And the pdf list of achievements he wanted to take credit for...am I the only one that read that...? Lots of those were team effort projects on bigger teams than that board. When will they get it together?

8. I had an uncle named Napoleon, a former head of the NCDPS...

a beloved hero in our family.
When I found out I couldn't have children, and my doctor told me to "get a dog" then my husband gave me "dog money" ...I stuffed it in a special place in my purse, in case of a getadog emergency. Then I found a Pomeranian. This little fuzz ball with a head the size of an orange started off on the attack. He would run across the yard just up to the road barking like crazy. He established his reputation quickly when he became known for trying to go after the Angus bull next door on my cousin's farm. I knew what I had to do. I asked the family if anyone would be insulted if I named the dog Napoleon and they laughed at me. I really wish I had a video of that "attack" and I am grateful he lived to be fifteen years old. I miss him every day. He was my child, my student and my teacher. Fall is the time of year we visited the elementary school for fall festival. Then twenty five cents would buy you a ticket to see "The Amazing Napoleon" sing and dance. Our place was on the stage behind the pulled curtain. No shows for free, though many children peeked and that just made him more special. He had a clown costume I made for him to wear during our routine. It was made of white fabric splashed with multicolored polka dots. It had a hood with a pompom on top that I had wired so it would stay straight up like a party hat. I dressed as a fairy godmother and carried a magic wand. There was always a line of children holding their tickets, jumping up and down. Some of the same children came back again and again to see him. Napoleon might be too nice of a name for that guy. Admittedly I feel a huge divide between Little Napoleon and my Amazing Napoleon. And in this situation, I think the grownups should have to tell the children we are sorry we couldn't get them better help.
