N.C. lawmakers pass sweeping changes to gun laws

RALEIGH, N.C. North Carolina lawmakers have approved a bill greatly expanding where concealed handguns are legally allowed.

The Republican-backed bill approved by both the House and Senate on Tuesday allows concealed-carry permit holders to take firearms into bars and restaurants and other places where alcohol is served as long as the owner doesn't expressly forbid it.

The measure will also allow concealed-carry permit holders to store weapons in locked cars on the campus of any public school or university. Guns will also now be allowed on greenways, playgrounds and other public recreation areas.

The final bill dropped a controversial provision that would have repealed the long-standing law requiring a background check and permit issued by county sheriffs for handgun purchases.

Why would "Congress" or the White House weigh in? This is a North Carolina law, not a federal law.

Surely they have an opinion of the laws of their home state.

So why, exactly, is it so important for them to comment at this time?

(They should definitely be asked when the next election rolls around)

Greenways? Playgrounds? Bars? Fuckers.

I'm in Raleigh and seriously wonder if any bars/restaurants will step up and "expressly" forbid it.

how businesses respond to this. They want my money, they better step up. I use the Greenway a lot, too. Sigh.

I vacillate between moving, and staying and fighting, but this shit makes me want to slap up the For Sale sign, get the hell out, and never look back. Even for vacations on the gorgeous coast...

I don't get the logic.

It is already illegal for anyone with a CCW to carry with any alcohol in their system.

Do you think a person who intends to violate the law and drink while carrying will care if they violate the law about signage too?

Because by default pretty much any business in NC that doesn't post allows them- not just places that serve alcohol, this is just new for them.

Do you refuse to shop at any store not posted now? Very few in NC post against concealed carry.

I did a work TDY to NC five years ago - I was impressed by the lush green beauty and intrigued by people I pegged as "a mixture of hip and hick" - I am sickened by what is happening there but impressed by the Moral Mondays crowds - yes INDEED
