A few photos from Moral Monday 12

They aren't the best photos, but just to show an idea of what was there today.

Salisbury Street. This is where a lot of the protestors go after the rally. It's where the arrested are loaded into buses to be hauled away. The protestors cheer them on.

A vendor selling his wares. Nice shirts, but I wish that he had bobbleheads of some of the Republican House and Senate members

3. Letter to an old (republican) friend...

Honestly, I'm worn out. I probably will get a scathing email back from this simple minded old boy, but I've had it with his whining about how he just doesn't trust this black guy in the White House, and how HIS America is threatened. I wrote a carefully worded response, and maybe he'll understand now that he is bawling to the wrong person.

He first started with some chain email from some person in Czechoslovakia that thinks Obama is poison. This was the email he sent me:

A BULLSEYE QUOTE............

Some people have the vocabulary to sum up things in a way that you can quickly understand them. This quote came from the Czech Republic . Someone over there has it figured out. It was translated into English from an article in the Prague newspaper Prager Zeitungon.

"The danger to America is not Barack Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America . Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools, such as those who made him their president."

Then, when I just responded with "that's too bad", he couldn't leave it alone, and wrote back:
Yes, it is too bad. The country needs a doer not a nice guy that is constantly campaighning. Nice guy? Probably. Presidential? Not a chance. My SS check goes into my account automatically so I don’t see the actual check but I hear that they are now referred to as a Government Benefit Check. If true I take it as an insult to all of us that put into the fund over the last 50 years. That is our money in there and I would like it back. Lots of things piss me off Mike. Also heard something to the effect that the people that could testify about the Bengaucy attack have been ordered (paid off) not to testify. Don’t understand that and have a difficult time believing it. But it could reflect badly on Hillary and hurt her future political career so perhaps ? Who knows?

Then I started hitting the keys and responded with this:

Honestly ______,
I really don't know where to begin. You hate the guy, you seem to think "your America is in danger", and there is nothing I can say or do but simply say I think you are pretty misinformed and mistaken.
I know I would be howling from the highest hilltop if Willard and the repubbs had taken the White House, so I guess I'll just have to let you be afraid and upset about it. I had the same feeling when that low life scum sucking piece of shit, cheney, had his hand up W's hind end running the country into a ditch for eight years prior. But that didn't seem to bother you or the right wing at all. It drove a lot of progressive Americans up the wall.
We did the whole Iraq invasion thing "with the army we have", and we opened up our worst side to the world with torture and corruption; but that didn't seem to bother the right wing at all. That's a mystery to me. Somebody who is so worried about our military, yet 4500 died for NOTHING, and thousands are wounded for life; not to mention the millions of dead and misplaced Iraqis. But that wasn't an issue to the right. Won't even bring up the finance part. Halliburton is still singing and dancin' the jig at our expense.
We haven't started any new wars since Obama took office. Horray! The right has been crying for one with Iran and North Korea since the day he stepped in the White House. The economy is slowly turning around, yet not fast enough for the right wing. Won't go into how the repubbs in Congress have done EVERYTHING in their power to put the brakes on a recovery. I'm sure you can find some fault with bailing out the auto industry and saving that one from going into the tank.
He got Bin Laden on his watch, on his call. W and his misfits couldn't be bothered with it. Torture was fine, but the results speak for themselves. We invaded Afghanistan, but then got bogged down in the phony war in Iraq while OBL ran wild in the hills, laughing at us in his secret hide-away.
You tend to overlook WHO was in power when 9/11 happened. Guess that doesn't matter when it's a repub in office. Had it been a democrat, or Obama heaven forbid, we NEVER would have heard the end of it. But, you don't even bother bringing it up. Heck, it was "just going to happen" I guess. Even though we had warnings that were ignored. Not a biggey. But Benghazi? Oh, holy shit. That was ALL his fault. Do you get it? Can you see just a wee bit of how hypocritical this all seems to appear?
You don't like the guy. He's black, hell I know you don't like him. It's not a surprise, and I'd be shocked if you didn't distrust the guy. You've had some bad experiences with blacks with your business, and maybe in your life. Nothing we can do about that one. And to make it worse, he's an intelligent and articulate black guy, and that drives the right wing absolutely CRAZY. That has to hurt.
He makes mistakes, but he makes an awful lot of right calls. He is a deliberate thinker, unlike the dunce that proceeded his administration. God, the blunders that clown would blurt out were not only great material for comedians and embarrassing, but disgusting as well.
It has to hurt to have a black guy in the White House that actually has had the experiences in life of a black guy. His latest address regarding the tragic death of the black kid in Florida drives the right wing nuts. He shares what it is like from the perspective of the black population in this country, and you all think he is stirring up a riot. I honestly don't think the right wing has any idea what is going on inside the head of someone who has had their life experiences. I can only imagine, but too many fox-viewers could care less.
How do you argue with that?
I tried to to just blow off your email, and it was honestly one of the more worthless ones you've sent to me in awhile. Why would I or anyone else care what some dick in Czechoslovakia thinks about Obama? You agree with him, that's fine. I'd expect you to. I expect 99% of the people that tune in to fox-nonsense every night to agree with him too. That's pretty lame. Did you happen to hear what the rest of the world was saying about W and cheney? I'm betting you couldn't have cared less.
I feel bad for you Steve. I feel bad for a lot of righties, cause I think many of you actually believe that "your America" is going to die. I don't even know what the hell that is suppose to mean.
I think too many right wing Americans are living in a fantasy world where they think, because we are caring more for the people in this country who have been shit on for the past thirty years since "the great actor" was checked in at the White House, and we care about trying to rebuild the dying middle class in this country, that they might be asked to pay a dime to help this country be a more compassionate country for it's own struggling middle class and those struggling to make it into the middle class.
You are pretty damned blessed. You worked for it, great. But I don't think that you are the only one who works for it. Lots of people have worked damned hard, and they have nothing to show for it. Thousands lost their homes, they lost their jobs to China and elsewhere, and the banks have gotten away with screwing anyone who deals with them for the last several decades.
My opinion is, we are on the right path. We don't have to agree. We are making headway, albeit damned slow. While much of the rest of the world is still wallowing in shit, we are stepping out of the shit hole W and his crooks left us in. The repubbs have done everything in their power to prevent this administration from having any progress; and instead the repubbs are focused on witch hunts, banning abortions, gay marriage and repealing Obamacare - for the 38th time. Jesus, how absurd. I really think the repubb party is history. Too many bigots, crazies and bible-thumping hypocrites. The party of Eisenhower is nearly extinct. Hell, I laugh when I read people posting that "Lincoln was a Republican", and "the Democrats were the ones opposing the Civil Rights Act". Those are such lame claims to fame. The republican party today is no more the party of Lincoln than he is the man from Mars. And the "democrats" that opposed civil rights for the blacks are the republican party today. It's the South! Just a label change. Shallow argument, if that's all they have.
I'm happy with Obama...not everything he does, but I'm a hell of a lot happier than I was with the clown and his evil step-sister running the country. And I KNOW I'm a hell of a lot happier with Obama than I would be with that stuffed shirt used car salesman that the repubbs tried sticking in the White House. Holy sweet Jesus. What a loser that would have been! Obama won by "a landslide". I know, I always thought of "a landslide" as 70 to 30, but in reality, it was one of the largest margins of victory in modern times.
So my good friend, you'll just have to be satisfied with being an unhappy camper for another three years. I have bad news for you, but I feel pretty good about Hillary or some other democrat getting elected in 2016, and you'll be a little happier because they're not black, but you're still going to be an unhappy camper. I could be wrong, as I seem to be wrong at least as often as I'm right; but the direction the repubb party has been going since the days of W; I just don't see them gaining control of the country until they pull their head out of a vagina and set their priorities toward doing this country some good for a change.
You got a lot more than you asked for. I gave you the short version first, but you prompted the long version; so here it is.
No offense intended. I'm not going to change your mind, and you're not going to change mine. I'd just suggest you turn off the fox nonsense and the right wing radio. It will just be a downer for a long, long time to come.
Best wishes,
*&lt cowboy
