SAFE Act repeal bills die in Assembly Codes

By Tanique Williams

Republican assemblymembers seeking a full repeal of the New York SAFE Act learned the unfortunate fate of their bills last week. The Assembly Codes Committee voted to keep a number of repeal efforts from being debated on the Assembly floor, nearly a week after thousands of pro-gun advocates rallied at the Capitol against the controversial new laws.

Three bills, two calling for a full repeal of the New York State SAFE Act and one that would amend certain provisions of the laws, now share the same fate after the Assembly Codes Committee voted them all down, all but ensuring the bills will not be brought to the floor of the Assembly for a vote this session.
