NYPD sergeants' union blasts mayor's plan to bring DNC to Brooklyn
JENNIFER FERMINO
The head of the Sergeants Benevolent Association has come out against the mayor's plans for the Democratic National Convention in Brooklyn, citing the rise in shootings, the perception among cops that City Hall doesn't have their backs and stalled contract talks.
"Morale is at an all- time low," SBA president Ed Mullins told the Daily News.
"It isn't fair to burden the NYPD with this because the mayor wants to be on a national stage. We don't feel supported by the mayor and there's a spike in shootings."
Shootings are up around 13% compared to this time last year, but crime overall in the city is down, including a 12% drop in homicides
