eclipse plans in ABQ area?

I'm wondering where people may be planning to watch this
eve, apart from what will probably be sold-out and overcrowded
viewing locations.

1. actually my neighborhood is overgrown with shade trees (my own included)..

so. i'm simply going to drive to a large parking lot with a good view west (after all it's early evening before it starts).. rather than fight crowds, i'm going to use the old Albertsons store at Menaul and Juan Tabo.. of course that depends on the cloud cover..

should anyone wish to join me, to watch the celestial show and share politics.. i will be at the aforementioned location around 6:30 I'm the old dude with the white beard, and the green saturn with the Obama 08 sticker..

3. is that up high enough? I think a view of the sun horizon is needed

I haven't been here long enough to know where to go but
somebody told me head for the volcanoes. I'm just going
to get on Rte 40 W and head toward the sun, get as high
as I can.

"high as I can" LOL

2. My front porch, with a pinhole punched through a piece of cardboard

I just hope the clouds don't roll in or if they do, they produce some rain.

4. you must be out of town a ways?

I have friends heading for the Sandia foothills but I don't think
they're going to be up high enough to see the setting sun
eclipsed. So I'm striking out in a westerly direction, somewhat
blindly.

5. now that it's over

the Juan Tabo venue worked well.. apparently i wasn't the only one who thought so.. in fact several carloads of people showed up.. one person gave me an extra pair of eclipse glasses they brought..

i stayed form the first contact, through the eclipse, and watched the setting "gibbous" sun.. all in all a great experience

6. I was without any glasses. I took glimpses and at times could see the outline of the moon

but without special lenses it was way way too bright.

But I enjoyed the overall ambiance & lighting changes.
I once saw a total eclipse and there was so much more
visible to the naked eye, so I really was unprepared for
this one, oh well.. still, at one point I stood facing the
eclipse with my eyes closed and just felt it.
