Seemed like a puff piece to me, somehow. He has a good publicist, apparently.

Press seem even more winger-biased than the Strib nowadays? I live in a neighboring state but I attend graduate school in the Twin Cities during the week, so I read both papers on the days I'm there. As bad as the Strib seems to be getting, it seems that the PP is even worse, especially when it comes to the op-ed and letters pages. Then again, didn't St. Paul elect asshole Norm Coleman as its mayor awhile ago?

Not a relative, and a good Democrat. St. Paul is solidly DFL. The PP leans right, for sure. Their letters and op-ed stuff are right. But, the city itself is a DFL stronghold.

Norman Bertram Coleman, Jr. (born August 17, 1949) is an American attorney and politician. He was a United States senator from Minnesota from 2003 to 2009. Coleman was elected in 2002 and served in the 108th, 109th, and 110th Congresses. Before becoming a senator, he was mayor of Saint Paul, Minnesota, from 1994 to 2002. Previously a member of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL), Coleman became a Republican in 1996.

I'm not much on earlier political facts here. He was a DFLer when he was first elected as Mayor, and an old hippie before that. Somewhere, he went way wrong, I guess.

But Chris Coleman isn't a Republican, which was the question that was raised.

he was a repub? I didn't know that. I can't imagine him as a DFLer, he's such a RW reactionary. Why did he switch? Was there something in particular that happened, or did he finally just show his true colors? What kind of DFLer was he?

There's a widely-circulated photo of him in college years with hippie hair (although looking a little ... thuggish).

Anyway, I think he's just an opportunist who switched parties because he thought the grass was greener.

that Normie knew mayor of St. Paul was as far as he would go in the DFL and he saw more opportunity for advancement with the Republicans.

Nice he is able to use employment protection laws, enacted by some liberal, to potentially cash in on his career demise.
