The phone rings. I answer: Hello. Caller: from the Franken campaign

I: That's OK, he will have our two votes, and we will attend tomorrow meeting in Hopkins

Caller: as you know the senator, perhaps a future president (really?) needs all the help..

I: I know. I've already sent a small contribution

Caller: As you remember, he won by only 300 votes..

I: I know, but we are retired on fixed income, I've already sent donation

Caller: The Koch brothers..

I: I know, but I cannot donate any more

Caller: Karl Rove..

I: He has our two votes, we will be there tomorrow we cannot give anymore

Caller: We want to reach $11,000 in donation before the end of the quarter

I: Good Bye, putting down the phone.

This is when my spouse reminds me of a former boss, an owner of a small manufacturing company, whose mantra was: always go after the ones who've bought from you before. Go after the ones who have shown ability and willing to give you money.

Yikes.

Franken has my vote too but his comedy background probably would keep him from becoming President unless he personally saved a school of children.

Why do you feel his background as a comedian would hurt him? Not disagreeing, just curious.

I don't know how he could counter that. (Worked for Sonny Bono and "Gopher" from Love Boat" but then they were running from California.)

He has been a solid rookie Senator and he probably would be a great one going forward. I would vote for him for President in the future.

but he certainly is not articulate. One gets the feeling that he is not sure of what he wants to say, even though if he were to write it down, he would be quite persuasive.

But then, neither is Dayton so perhaps Minnesotans are more tolerant.
