10/7. High Alert: Sheriff to evict Jamie tomorrow 10/8 @ 10:30am, Rally 9:30am Minneapolis

Sheriffs have scheduled their eviction for tomorrow (10/8) at 10:30am. Rally at 9:30am at her home - 3753 11th ave. S.

Be on HIGH ALERT: we know the sheriffs plan to evict Jaymie sometime this week--even though she's lived in her home 30 years and paid for it five times over.

If you are not already on our eviction defense alert system, please text @occupyhomes to the number 23559. We'll let you know when we need the community to come defend Jaymie's home. You can also sign up here: http://cy.tl/NmSEAR

Today I got word that sheriffs are coming tomorrow to evict me from my home of 30 years. They have scheduled my eviction for 10:30 am.

Rally with me at 9:30 am as we prepare a community blockade to prevent the sheriffs from carrying out the eviction.

I’ve lived in the Powderhorn neighborhood my entire life and paid for my home five times over. I’ve seen my community defend residents in the Eviction Free Zone, like Sergio and Jonathan Ceballos, and the strength of a neighborhood defense has kept the Ceballos in their home.

Please join me and my community to turn back the sheriffs. My neighbors stand with me and we have power in our numbers.

Neighbors block eviction for homeowner who paid for house five times

*** 150 neighbors and community supporters successfully prevented the scheduled eviction of Jaymie Kelly, a Powderhorn homeowner who has lived in her home 30 years, this morning.

(amazing,, 150 people were able to come to the rally at 9:30am.. )

Jaymie, who has paid the value of her home five times over, was scheduled to be evicted by Freddie Mac and the Hennepin County sheriff's department at 10:30 this morning, on her daughter Sinead's 23rd birthday--but a rapid community response forced the sheriffs' deputies to reschedule.
"The government is shut down, but Freddie Mac evictions are still considered an essential service. But the power of community is too big to fail," said Jaymie. "Today's blocked eviction is the greatest birthday present I could give my daughter. I am not moving, and my neighbors stand with me."

Freddie Mac, which operates under the federal agency FHFA, is continuing its evictions of Jaymie and others in spite of the government shutdown.

"Sheriff Stanek and the big banks don't want to do their dirty work in front of 150 community members," said Nick Espinosa, an organizer with Occupy Homes MN whose family successfully fought off foreclosure last year. "But we will be ready for them at any hour of the day or night. Jaymie's not going anywhere, and neither are we."

The sheriff's department is legally required to carry out Jaymie's eviction by Friday, October 11. Community members are prepared to respond to an eviction attempt 24/7.
Jaymie is a resident of south Minneapolis' Eviction Free Zone, where residents resist unjust evictions. An eviction blockade July 24 at the home of her neighbor, Sergio Ceballos, successfully kept his family in their home. Two months later, Sergio’s family is still in their home and in negotiations with Chase Bank.

(Now.. if we could get a community centered Sheriff instead of the racists neo-conned Sheriff, we might get a halt on the evictions)

3. request to us from home owner Jaymie

My neighbors in the Eviction Free Zone support me, and people from all over the Twin Cities are planning to come out to my house to stand their ground and prevent the sheriffs from taking my home. If you're in the Twin Cities, please join us this morning for an eviction blockade.

Meanwhile, please help me keep the pressure on Chase Bank so we can finally reach an agreement.

Call CEO Jamie Dimon at 212-270-1111 and say:

"Hi, my name is ________ and I'm calling from __(city, state)__. I'm calling on behalf of Jaymie Kelly at 3753 11th Avenue South in Minneapolis, whose eviction is scheduled for today--but her neighbors in the Eviction Free Zone are standing with her, and she is not leaving. Jaymie has lived in her home for 30 years and has paid for it five times over. I urge Chase to negotiate with Jaymie so that she can receive a loan modification to stay in her home."

Thank you so much for your support - we'll let you know how it goes!
Jaymie Kelly

MINNEAPOLIS - Dozens of protesters are bracing for a showdown with Hennepin County Sheriff's deputies Tuesday, as they attempt to stop foreclosure proceedings against a homeowner in south Minneapolis.

Jaymie Kelly says she's owned the home at 3753 11th Avenue South for 30 years, but claims she was the victim of a predatory lender when her husband died in the early 2000s and now is in a vicious cycle of financial failure.

Kelly says she's ponied up $425,000 in mortgage payments over three decades and should not be in this position.

"I've already paid for my home five times over and this is the crisis situation right now, there's many people who are in similar situations throughout the world," Kelly said.

After 150 people showed up to halt Jaymie's scheduled eviction yesterday on less than 24 hours notice we're still here!

Sheriffs now have 50 hours left to carry out the eviction. LIKE and SHARE if you're not going to let that happen!
