Sweetening Bachmann's stay in the House?

Some of these pundits earlier today on MSNBC. The Republicans really do not want Bachmann to run against Franken so they are going to give her all sort of goodies so she will want to stay in the House.

1. I'm sure Michelle will do whatever God tells her to

that's how she claims to have made all her other decisions about what office to run for. And I really hope God decides to finish her career off once and for all by tellling her to run against Franken.

10. Yet, no one ever asked her - as suggested on "The Newsroom" -

how does God sound..

14. She has said that she has "fasted and prayed" over these things

so I'm thinking God may sound like a growling, empty stomach. (On the other hand S/He may sound like someone stifling a laugh as they sucker someone else into doing something stupid "Michelle...Run for pres<suppressed giggle>ident.")

4. Standards for People Representing Us

Shouldn't there be some standards for people who represent us? For example, that they know certain things (e.g., that " target="_blank">CO2 is dangerous). That's something most children know. Maybe they should also know the capitals of states (something also most children know).

5. Bring this loud mouth twit on,

I said it before and say it again. Bachmann wouldn't stand a chance on a state wide race. Her district was carved out just for her,by adding in Chanhassen and Chaska which are the most conservative suburban areas near the Twin City. OMG make it happen. Al will have a field day with this twit. Paulson would make a bit tighter race, but,Bachmann, that would be brutal.

6. Exactly.

There is no way in hell Bachmann could ever win a state-wide race. Ever.

She's as far as she'll ever get in politics. Her next stop will be a cushy job with Fox or some crazy think tank making big bucks.

11. Chanhassen and Chaska, and St. Cloud and Sillwater?

How much gerrymandering was done to form her district?

and didn't it get added to the 4th District?

15. She sure does

Never moved into the new district. Couldn't vote for herself this year.

Here's a Mother Jones article about her complaining about the liberal Supreme Court justices who drew the lines:

12. Actually Bachmann was angry about redistricting

She went on about the liberal supreme court justices gerrymandering her out of he district. She did not want to move and was smart enough to know that this would cause her trouble. So election day 2012 she could not even vote for herself; she lives in the 4th district. I think this might have been one of the factors that held her down to a 5000 vote win.

Any other Republican who lives in district and who's slight more sane is going to win by 10-15 in the district as drawn

16. I don't know. But Republicans are already working on

recruiting someone who, they hope, can beat Franken.

And they know that Bachmann will never do so they are offering all kind of goodies in the House as a pre-emptive move. They don't need a repeat of other candidates that won primaries and ended up going down in flames.

The problem will be that even if she runs for the Senate, she will still keep the option of running for Congress. After all, didn't she say that win or lose - in the Presidential race earlier this year - she was not going to run for her Congressional seat? Oops, I suppose.

And if Paul Ryan can why not her? I really wish they drop those security blankets. Decide on an office and forget all others. This is the only good thing I can say about Pawlenty: he decided not to run/keep his governor office while seeking the Presidency.

17. Minnesota law

does not allow running for more than one federal office at a time. So while Paul Ryan was able to run as a veep candidate and for re-election to his house seat, Minnesota candidates could not do the same thing. (The only other time I can recall a similar situation is when Lloyd Bentson was the veep candidate in 1988 and won re-election to his US Senate seat).

18. Thank you for the explanation

Joe Lieberman, too, ran in 2000 as both a Gore V.P. and was re-elected to the Senate.

19. I had forgotten about Lieberman.

I agree with Minnesota law and do not think a candidate should be able to run for more than one federal office on the same election day.
