Anti-immigration Maryland GOP candidate accused of molesting 8-year-old girl

"An anti-immigration Republican candidate was charged last week with molesting an 8-year-old girl.

Michael Hethmon, senior counsel for the Immigration Reform Law Institute, is running a long-shot campaign for Maryland’s House of Delegates.

The 60-year-old is nationally known for his legal work helping to push anti-immigration laws and providing legal advice to anti-immigration lawmakers.

Hethmon is accused of sexually touching the girl Aug. 31 at his farm in Upper Marlboro."

According to the article he is running for delegate in District 23B in Prince George’s County.

Irony alert!

I looked Hethmon up on a search engine and found the following info for the link to his campaign web site (my italics added):

"Citizens for Mike Hethmon 23B - it's time to ... clean house ...
Mike Hethmon for Delegate 27A ... Dear Neighbors and Fellow Citizens, Welcome to my 2014 campaign to restore checks and balances to our dysfunctional Maryland Legislature."

The website currently says it's "under construction"

Did a little more research and found that Hethmon is nationally active in anti-immigrant legislation.

"Maryland GOP politician Michael Hethmon, who also serves as senior counsel for the Immigration Reform Law Institute, has been charged with child sexual abuse over claims that he molested an 8-year-old girl, according to WUSA.

The IRLI is the legal arm of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, and Hethmon worked with Kris Kobach, who is now the Secretary of State of Kansas, to push anti-immigrant laws across the country and provide legal advice to anti-immigrant lawmakers.

Hethmon has warned that immigration is a threat to the country’s white majority and will lead to violence, and especially focused on creating policies that would lead to “self-deportation.”
