CAN IOWA CAUCUS BE RELEVANT AFTER JONI ERNST?

For years the Iowa Caucuses were received as the first real test of a presidential candidate. Until Joni Ernst. Since she was elected to the Senate in that state, I am not sure how this will affect the normal opinions of those who follow this political event. But it is for sure that at least some of its credibility is shot to hell. If the same people who elected Ernst are the ones who vote in the caucuses--and that must be the case--the results of their ballots have to be considered as looney as their support for the latest Tea Party fruitcake. Iowans are usually level headed with a lot of common sense and that is the reason presidential candidates seek their backing. But the whole process seems to have derailed when the Tea Party moved in and slipped this radical lunatic through the cracks. It is my guess that she won due to a low voter turnout when the triple-digit IQs stayed home. It goes without saying that too much of this is happening in this country and I just hope it is not too late when the American public realizes it.

by the posts here, one can see that Iowa's first in the nation status really isn't well liked. And Joni's election certainly hasn't helped any.

9. People don't understand that the purpose of the caucus is really to choose delegates...

and other party participants (central committee members, etc). It's not really designed to choose a candidate.

but not knowing it doesn't mean you can't hate on the caucus as too many do.

8. I don't see her making a difference in either the R or D caucus

The R's like her; the D's don't. Each will caucus as usual. The R's had some problems with reporting results after the last presidential caucus; I see that as more of a problem for them.

look, the folks here are not responsible for either King or Ernst. We would really appreciate any help we can get getting rid of them.
Plus I would note that your own state could use a bit of tending.

Now as far as the relevance of caucuses - we have two you know. One for each party. On the tea bag side it truly is a joke and always has been with the religious right pretty much running the show.

On the Democratic side we have taken the caucuses very seriously. As noted earlier, the caucuses are the start of a long process of choosing delegates to the convention.

Thanks for the snide remarks and thanks to those who joined Mr. Nasty in kicking us around. Please return when you have something actually constructive to offer.
