West, Murphy both head to Washington Tuesday

Republican U.S. Rep. Allen West and his apparent Democratic successor, Patrick Murphy, are both heading to Capitol Hill Tuesday.

West is returning for a lame-duck session of Congress while Murphy will attend new member orientation after returns showed him edging West by less than 1 percent in a disputed race for Palm Beach-Treasure Coast congressional District 18.

West has not conceded and says a partial recount in St. Lucie County that shifted hundreds of votes on Sunday underscores the need for a full recount of early ballots from that county, which is one of three in District 18.

“Something is fishy” with early vote totals, West said Monday in his first Palm Beach Post interview since the election.
