ST. PETERSBURG --
A man freed after serving 27 years in prison for a murder he didn't commit will sing the national anthem at tonight’s Rays game.
William Dillon will belt out the Star Spangled Banner at Tropicana Field before the Rays take on the Cleveland Indians tonight.
Dillon was convicted of a murder in 1981, but DNA evidence later cleared him. He was released in 2008 thanks to help from the Innocence Project.
In March, Florida Gov. Rick Scott personally apologized to Dillon and announced a $1.35 million compensation package for Dillon, who now lives in North Carolina.
Dillon plays with a band made up of exonerated former prisoners.
