Gov. Rick Scott recently signed a bill approving a strain of marijuana known as Charlotte's Web. The new law allows children suffering epilepsy and various forms of cancer to use a form of marijuana that is low in euphorics and high in cannabis. It has been proven to decrease symptoms in children.
I hope it works.

Do you think that there will be any co-pays for the medication?

(345 posts)He and the repub controlled legislature are trying to head off a voter sponsored initiative to allow medical marijuana. And the availability would be more than just some Charlotte's Web version. They're trying to look like they've already addressed the issue because polls all appear to show that the medical marijuana vote will pass.

(37,457 posts)A couple points:
1. The law is very restrictive compared to the amendment.
2. It's a law passed by the legislature so it can easily be modified or repealed after the election.
3. They are trying to neutralize the highly popular medical marijuana issue because they are afraid it will increase turnout- especially among younger voters. High turnout is always bad for the Republicans.
4. Rick Scott still doesn't have a soul or an intact conscience.

(14,255 posts)He is hoping to use this bill to head off putting the legalization of marijuana on the ballot this November.
Also, the only people who can grow the strain have to have been in business CONTINUOUSLY for 30 years, which cuts out growers who had to shut down due to hurricanes.

Most of the Legislature's Republican leadership opposes the rival constitutional ballot initiative, as does the Florida Sheriff's Association and the Florida Medical Association. Many speculated that the GOP-controlled Legislature agreed to pass the low-THC proposal to squash voter interest in passing the amendment, which opponents believe will lead to the total legalization of smoking marijuana, misuse and abuse.
Scott also opposed Medicaid expansion right up until just before his pet legislature left for vacation - they, of course, rejected it, but Scott can use the fact that he finally proposed it when he runs against Crist or Rich.
My grandson got a part time job at Publix. He is 19. He went from having medicaid to having a bizarre thing called "Cost Sharing". He only has insurance if he spends $514 of his own money. Each month. This is about 65% of what he makes a month. Looking into the exchange since he likely will not get enough hours to get company-provided insurance. Life in Florida!
