Huge success for residents who live around the Black Hammock in Seminole

Seminole residents win battle over development near Black Hammock

Residents of east Seminole County claimed victory Tuesday after county commissioners rejected a request by the owner of Black Hammock Adventures to build a nature center and overnight cabins next to his attraction along the south shore of Lake Jesup.

In a 3-to-2 vote, commissioners said the development would spoil the rural character of the area just north of Oviedo.

"I believe that this is inconsistent with the development of that area," said Commissioner Carlton Henley, calling the development a "motel of cabins."

"I don't think this is in the best interest of the citizens of Seminole County."

One of my best memories besides the sanctuary around where I used to live was to venture out and see the lake in all it's natural glory. Leave the alligators there, I say.

I know it's easy to think "it's a matter of time"… I say keep fighting the machine. I do it wherever I live.

Shout out to the gators of Lk Jessup!
