Lucy, a tunnel boring machine, aims to alleviate flooding in LeDroit Park and Bloomingdale. (D.C. Water)
When D.C. Waters new tunnel boring machine was officially christened Lucy last week, one of her fellow TBMs seemed a little jealous.
Oh sure, everyone loves Lucy, tweeted Lady Bird, apparently taking a break from boring a
100-foot deep tunnel alongside the Potomac River.
Yes, each of D.C.s three tunnel diggers has her own Twitter account. Lucy
@LucyTBM joined just last week, tweeting Well hello, #BloomingdaleDC to the neighborhood where she will be beginning her tunnel task. She also replied to her sister digger:
@LadyBirdTBM Dont be a hater.
D.C. Water spokeswoman Pamela Mooring denies any friction among the three divas. In fact, they are all working together beautifully in their shared mission: to revamp D.C.s antiquated sewer system.
The $2.6 billion Clean Rivers project is D.C.s biggest construction project since the building of the Metro, she says.
