Marijuana initiative could make or break Obama in Colorado

Marijuana initiative could make or break Obama in Colorado - Reuters/Saturday, June 2, 2012

With no statewide office contest this year to engage the Democrats in GOTV efforts, I have been less than sanguine about Pres. Obama's chances to win in Colorado.

However, the marijuana initiative gives Obama a chance -- it really may depend upon how effective the pro-legalization forces are at turning out the youth vote.

Being pro-marijuana legalization does not necessarily mean being pro-Obama ... I know libertarian and 'Green Party' types that will vote for Amendment 64, but will not vote for Obama.

2. Seriously?

Obama's chances lie squarely on his opinion of the legalization of marijuana?

Sigh.

I'm pro pot... it's long overdue...

But I wont' stake the office of POTUS on it.

3. I'm not saying that.

I'm maintaining that with no high profile statewide candidate running this year i.e.., no U.S. Senate race, then there maybe less voter turnout and a less intense Democratic GOTV effort.

The issue that could help Obama is the statewide pro-Amendment 64 contest that may bring some marginal voters to the polls.

However, I just warn that not all pro-legalization voters will be Obama voters, though I'd bet about 95% will be ... despite the Obama Justice Department's war on medical marijuana clinics.
