Gary Hickey, a candidate running for San Joaquin County district attorney, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of assaulting a woman while he was intoxicated at his home, according to Sgt. Steve Maynard of the Lodi Police Department.
The woman, whose name was not released, is a co-resident of the home. She called the police to press charges against Hickey at 9:15 p.m. Hickey was arrested by Officer Dominic Carillo on suspicion of misdemeanor assault. Hickey will remain in the sobering cell for six to eight hours, or until he is no longer intoxicated.
The arrest comes about 24 hours after Hickey was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public and causing a disturbance on Friday night. Hickey was found at around 8 p.m. outside his home carrying a bottle they suspected contained alcohol, said police. He was taken into custody and released at 2 a.m. Saturday.
Hickeys blood alcohol content during each of these incidences is not known. Maynard said police policy only checks BAC in the case of driving under the influence or in a fatal car accident.

STOCKTON - San Joaquin County district attorney candidate Gary Hickey, who has several legal problems of his own, received another setback Thursday.
Hickey, who is from Lodi, was informed by the local bar association he was no longer being recommended for defense work by the Lawyer Referral Service. About 70 attorneys are available for that work when county-paid public defenders can't be assigned.
Hickey was arrested in Lodi about a month ago on suspicion of driving under the influence. He also under investigation for his involvement in another incident about two weeks ago when another man suffered a dislocated hip. Hickey still hasn't completely settled a misdemeanor hit-and-run case from last year, in which he left the scene of a crash. And finally, News10 interviewed Hickey on a work day in March coming out of a bar at 10:30 in the morning when he admitted he'd had "half a beer."
Hickey is facing Tori Verber Salazar for district attorney for San Joaquin County.
