http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/CSU-strike-averted-after-tentative-agreement-7235233.phpDetails of the deal between CSU and the California Faculty Association will be released Friday. The announcement of an agreement comes on the heels of a neutral fact-finders report that found faculty members were entitled to a larger salary increase than the 2 percent raise that CSU officials had offered.
Union leaders postponed the strike set for next Wednesday through Friday and April 18-19, pending approval of the agreement by the unions board and members. If approved, the deal will go before the CSU Board of Trustees at its May meeting.
The strike would have been the first of its kind in the universitys history. With 23,000 instructors, librarians, counselors and athletic coaches represented by the union, picket lines would have brought the campuses to a standstill.
I was looking forward to a couple extra days off. From what I heard, not all instructors were planning on participating in the strike, and for an instructor of mine that I knew would have participated, he already made a contingency plan with coursework and a take-home quiz posted on Blackboard.
I commute a long distance to the campus, so any day I don't have to drive for three hours to attend class is a gift. Thank goodness this is my last semester, Highway 99 is a damned nightmare and I feel like I'm risking my safety just to get to school.

(26,602 posts)The tentative agreement seems OK based on the blurbs I've seen: no retroactive raise, but 5% followed by 2% on 6/30 and 7/1, respectively. We'll see how the faculty votes...
