US senator calls to prosecute Assange
Philip Dorling July 2, 2012 THE head of the US Senate's powerful intelligence oversight committee has renewed calls for Julian Assange to be prosecuted for espionage. The US Justice Department has also confirmed WikiLeaks remains the target of an ongoing criminal investigation, calling into question Australian government claims that the US has no interest in extraditing Mr Assange. ''I believe Mr Assange has knowingly obtained and disseminated classified information which could cause injury to the United States,'' the chairwoman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Dianne Feinstein, said in a written statement provided to the Herald. ''He has caused serious harm to US national security, and he should be prosecuted accordingly.'' Senator Feinstein's call for the Obama administration to move ahead with plans to prosecute Mr Assange came as a US Justice Department spokesman, Dean Boyd, publicly confirmed that ''there continues to be an investigation into the WikiLeaks matter''. She of all people doesn't want us to know why she ignored hundreds of thousands of her constituents who begged her to vote against the invasion of Iraq.

Why the HELL doesn't she just retire? I was hoping, at 79, she would call it quits and let a younger, more progressive Senator have a chance, but nope. I guess she hasn't made QUITE enough blood money off the wars THAT SHE VOTED FOR quite yet. |

4. Is there any chance her statement is a misguided attempt to help him?

I.e., to the extent people are claiming Assange has nothing to fear, that the US won't try to extradite him and that he's just trying to evade rape charges – to that extent, a renewed, open call for prosecution would tend to show that yes, he does have something to fear and so should be treated as someone with a legit claim to asylum (i.e., if he does not receive this protection, he will be in jeopardy of persecution or even death).

And after our recent primary, I'm almost sorry that we won't have Taitz to kick around any more. (But, somehow, I have a sneaking suspicion that she'll be baaaaack.)

The nation is falling apart, her state is falling apart, and what is she going on about? Does she offer any solutions? No. She whines about some Australian nerd.
