|

And if you get up into the hills, there are some nice paths to trod in Tilden Park, too...! (You could grab some bread and cheese at the Cheese Board, and have a picnic!) |

7. Oops. I thought jackie was headlining.

He's on a roll right now. Should be a good show, in any case.

9. I don't get the Avetts myself..
|
But they are what is happening. Jackie in the SF is a Fillmore guy nothing bigger right now (and probably forever due to the amount of shows he plays every year). Love him. But he plays around here all the time in various variousnesses.

12. Lol!

"Various variousnesses" is indeed an accurate appraisal of his many projects.
I agree with you, but I think he's on his way to a much larger following. We'll see. |

Last edited Sat Jun 23, 2012, 03:04 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1) Beer: Triple Rock has great beer and great food. Shattuck Avenue about a block North of University.
The Berkeley Bowl is an amazing store. even if you don't buy anything you will see what food SHOULD look like. On Telegraph, go farther down (South) from the street vendor area.... to Berkeley Hats store. BEST HAT STORE EVER! Tilden Park has some great views, some great hiking trails and an old school carousel that is pretty amazing. The view from the road above the Greek Theater is one of the best you can get. (Hearst) There is a Brazilian place at Shattuck and University that is pretty good, Kitchy as all get out. Chez Pannise of course. Try upstairs for more moderate pricing. There are tons of great restaurants right there. Spenger's, while not what it once was (Whatever that is) is still pretty good if pricier. (The cooking on some dishes is way more inventive). I go to Brennans all the time, I love Hof brau food and there's is really good. Outsdie of Berkely a bit: Rudy's Can't fail Cafe (Emeryville) The place is a gas (the original). Good food fun place. Diner food, once on DDD. Sassy servers, great coffee. The Public Market, across the Railroad Tracks from the AMTRAK station in Emeryville. About 50 Mom and Pop restaurants under one roof. Not the best, but decent cheap food, Love to lunch here. Great place to people watch. Emeryville has a free shoppers bus. Go out to the Marina in Emeryville. Shipyards, some very nice boas and an incredible view of SF and the Golden gate. Sunset is amazing if not foggy here. |

8. Thanks. Lots of great ideas
|
We're way at at the Berkeley marina. Apparently the hotel has a shuttle to get us into Berkeley prper which we'll likely take tomorrow.
Where's the Berkeley bowl? Sounds great. Also -hats. I want to go there! If not an issue for you (know it is for some) best place to buy cigs? Thanks so much for your suggestions benny! |

13. There are two Berkeley Bowl locales now
|

The Heinz st. locale might be easier if you're down at the Marina -- depending how you're getting around. Can grab some good chow for lunch, take-out, etc. there...! |

15. Probably the Oregon St. "original," from the Ashby Bart station
|
...which will put you south of the "main part" of downtown Berkeley....

11. Go to the UC Botanical Garden in Strawberry Canyon.
|
One takes the road between the Greek Theatre and Memorial Stadium and can't miss it. If you get to Lawrence Hall of Science, you've gone too far.
