Butte County

So my boy is off to Chico State in about a month. We've been up there three times this year. I knew it was a more conservative area than the Bay Area or the Central Valley but each time we've been up there we've seen more and more signs for the State of Jefferson. Totally sucky name for a state.

It's an ignorant state of mind, LOL
They (the Jefferson's) want to split California into two states, they feel we're not being represented by our politicians, can you imagine? Oh the horrors!

It died on the vine the day the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor

The state of Jefferson was in "patriotic rebellion against the States of California and Oregon" and would continue to secede every Thursday until further notice!

Don't let those signs fool you, Chico is a nice blue island in this reddish area. I now live an hour south of there, went to Chico State, and worked up there for a few years after school.
Unfortunately, I think the Board of Supervisors voted to join the Jefferson movement.

great campus, they've mixed the old and new architecture so well. We got a really good vibe there, not pretentious at all. I'm really happy he choose Chico and best part for me is he's only 2 1/2 hours away and there's not all that Socal traffic. I saw a lot of students riding bikes too.

Where are you?! The only person I know in Chico is a progressive Bernie supporter.

The "Jefferson" thing is a riff on Washington: southern Oregon and far northern California wishing to unite against diversity. Astoundingly, NPR up there calls itself "Jefferson Public Radio"!

Close to Auburn. The tea-baggers up this way are really into the whole Jefferson thingee. Especially due to their wanting to pay less taxes. But somehow it looks like they will be around linger than the tea-baggers. Bigger signs and so on.

Herb Caen did the whole thing to tell us about the first Jefferson party back in the 30s. If you get a chance, You might want to check it out on the net.
