Silicon Valley ranks first in California in binge drinking

http://blog.sfgate.com/stew/2015/04/25/drunk-innovation-silicon-valley-ranks-first-in-california-in-binge-drinking/

Researchers at the University of Washington found that binge drinking in Santa Clara County has increased 28 percent over a decade between both sexes, from 2002 to 2012, making it the highest in California.

The study, titled Drinking Patterns in US counties from 2002 to 2012, concluded that “Heavy and binge drinking prevalence increased in most counties between 2005 and 2012, but the magnitude of change varied considerably,” and “these estimates should be used as an aid in designing and implementing targeted interventions and to monitor progress toward reducing the burden of excessive alcohol use.”...

California doesn’t even come close to the reigning supreme champions of the alcohol guzzling sport — Kentucky. California’s binge-drinkingest county, Santa Clara, ranked 249th in percent change from 2002-2012 between both sexes.

Meanwhile, Kentucky’s counties ranked in 90 of the top 100 spots in the percent change between both sexes from 2002-2012, including the top 33. Texas’ Loving County was 34th, with an 80.8 percent increase in binge drinking over a decade, and a 147 percent increase in binge drinking between 2005-2012.

Of course, I arrived on the scene five and a half years ago. Oh, and the population of Loving County, Texas is 82, so one lush might have skewed the data.
