Related: About this forumFinished jury duty yesterday
in Maricopa County Superior Court. It was a civil case and quite interesting. My fellow jurors and I worked well together and are even planning a reunion for next year. The reason for this thread is that I am thankful that jury members are allowed to submit questions to the judge and lawyers. Being able to ask questions helped us clarify some of the confusion that comes with a witness's testimony.

(16,356 posts)I cannot understand why people don't like jury duty and try to get out of it. I've been on several juries and have always found it so interesting and even fun at times. You meet nice people of all different backgrounds that you'd never get a chance to meet otherwise, you get out of your usual routine for a day or two, you serve your community, and you learn something. What could be better? Oh, plus, you usually get a good meal or two you don't have to pay for. Sign me up any day!

(11,175 posts)It's not always "you get out of your usual routine for a day or two...." The last time I was called, the judge told us before jury selection began that the trial would probably take about 7 business days. D epending on one's situation vis-a-vis employment, schooling, or child care, that might well be a big problem. I know it would have been for me. I was happy that they filled the jury before they got to me.

(6,198 posts)Day 7 being the day we did our deliberation. A few on our jury did quality for the extra money since it went past the 6 days. For my first time I am glad that I had a civil instead of criminal. Although I have been called several times this was the first time sitting on a jury. Two other times I made it as far as the court room, the rest my group was dismissed and I did not have to go down to the court room.
