Tucson rainfall 3.74 inches below normal

Into each life some rain must fall - unless you've been living in Tucson in recent months.

Since our unexceptional monsoon ended on Sept. 30, the city has pulled a measly 0.03 of an inch of moisture out of the sky.

That leaves us with only 6.73 inches of rain so far this year - 3.74 inches short of the normal for this date, said Gary Zell, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

And there's not even a sprinkle in the forecast for the immediate future.

4. we are going to need to ge something like 5 inches before the end of the year to even reach average

the timing of rain was OK this summer, we grew ok grass, but amounts were low. the canyon barely ran water and only one stock tank filled all the way, two ponds are already dry, one never caught any water this summer and it looks like one of our other main ones will be dry well before spring is over. Only got about 6 inches for the summer, average is 10.

I have mixed feeling about winter rain. It is good and slow so it tends to soak in better, but it also makes the animals' feed requirements go up due to wet and cold while at the same time washing nutrients out of the dormant grass they are living on. At this point I will take the moisture and we can try to supplement in February if things get THAT washed out. As it is, the 1/2 inch we got out of the last two showers recently, combined with daytime temps over 70 and even up to 80 has caused a little mini-green up out there. I am certainly OK with green grass in late November. Even saw a couple live Mexican Generals in the back yard the other day!

5. SO SUNNY LIKE CALIFORNIA

The weather is changing and we have to get use to it being warmer and drier. California is already headed for another drought, but at least there are plenty of reservoirs to catch the run off. The other states will have to be prepared to catch run off rain in the future.

I read that the Mississippi will be lower because the states are diverting water for the future.

Good luck with filling your water requirements and think about prayer.
