(102,218 posts)Fox Entertainment network (as opposed to Faux Snooze) actually can produce some good programs.
It seems that mini cable (Fox, AMC, FX, USA Network) has joined "Big Cable" (HBO, SHowtime) in really kicking network tv out of the competition. I guess the latter will have their humdrum sitcoms and reality crap and that's about it...

(53,944 posts)On FX, we love "American Horror Story," which just ended last night. This season was a roller coaster...lesbians, serial killers, dranged nuns, Satan, Nazis, Anne Frank (not kidding, it was a storyline), and Adam Levine!

(45,319 posts)Walking Dead tops cable narrative shows, with over 11 million viewers the rest of the cable top 20 is between 5 and 6 million viewers. Network #1 Big Bang Theory with 17,886,000 this week, bottom of the Network top 20 CSI NY with 8,588,000. The number 2 cable show, 8.6 million. Top of the cable heap is bottom of the Networks....

(17,055 posts)But I was happy to see all those flashbacks with prosecutor Caroline Julian (played by Patricia Belcher). Love how she calls people 'cherie'!

(4,542 posts)Maureen Ryan's review pretty much says what I thought: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/maureen-ryan/the-following-review_b_2511966.html
The acting was great, but the premise is just too flawed, and that bothers me. A lot. I don't buy it.
I also have some ethical problems with it regarding the extreme violence and 'glorification' of it. In a culture that is currently trying to examine its fascination with violence, it is just too much, IMO. That's just me, though. I've never liked 'slasher' films (like, for instance, the showrunner's Scream films), for much the same reasons (that 'glorification' of violence and promotion of America's fascination--and maybe, for some, even addiction to--with it).
All of that said, I do watch some shows that have an element of gore and/or violence (like Dexter, True Blood, and The Walking Dead), but these shows all have other redeeming qualities. The only one of these that is anywhere close to reality is Dexter, but Dexter has a code, and his struggle with his 'dark passenger' has always been dealt with in an interesting and thoughtful way. There is no 'glory' for Dexter in what he does. It troubles him. And the other two (TB and TWD) are pure fantasy, outside the realm of the real world. This series is set squarely in the real world, and I don't see any inkling of remorse in Purefoy's character, which is much different from Hall's Dexter. OK. Enough said there.
I will probably watch one more episode to see if it gets any better, but most likely, this one's going to get a thumbs down from me.

(20,043 posts)can't wait to watch. A friend of mine watched it and when she came home from work the next day her husband wasn't home yet, she sat outside in the car till he came home because she was afraid to go in the house. LOL. She was really freaked out, said she wasn't going to watch it again.

(11,441 posts)but I jumped anyway! Not too many "must-see" network TV shows for me, but I'm definitely looking forward to this coming Monday night!

(4,444 posts)tracks instead of the usual generic stabs or what CSI does where they have one semi-current upbeat song during the science montage.

(11,441 posts)Same song used in the caravan-burning scene in "Snatch."
I haven't listened to them much over the years, but think it's time to start.

(17,055 posts)I have a question. Who is that person in the mask?
It is really quite a good show.
Silver Gaia
(4,542 posts)I have an even better question: where the frack did he come from?
I rewound and watched that scene several times. There was nowhere in that room where he could have been hiding. There were 3 "Poe-mask heads" on the shelf when we first saw it, and there were still 3 when the guy was there next to it (we could see him in the mirror). He just came out of nowhere (with yet another mask), and I'm not buying it that he was somehow able to sneak past Bacon's character and then do the whole "Boo!" thing. That whole scene was just there to make us jump, and it didn't even make sense. You know... the showrunner is Kevin Williamson, the same guy who did the Scream movies, so I guess this is just one of his signature things.

(29,644 posts)does she do that through the whole show?? We turned to another channel....didn't watch and won't.

(4,542 posts)there are still a lot of things that bother me about the whole premise of the show.

(11,441 posts)Thought the first half was a little "meh," but loved the last half. That sad/disturbing video! I have no idea who or what a Miranda Sex Garden is, but the closing song was perfect...

(7,477 posts)Don't care for the premise of the show and think the acting is just okay. Also, I don't mind some gore, but this is over the top.
