Good nooz, nothing damaged so far... nobody killed so far... you know the drill
Bad nooz... not so sure it will remain that way. It is at 900 acres as of 12:00 AM, yes, we are that crazy to go chase a fire.
And I hope I am not only wrong, but dead wrong. Given what a resident told us, not so sure.
Oh the other good nooz, this is a box canyon, so I hope it remains that way... and does not crest any canyon... if it does not, it will be fine.
Here, from the paper... we were yards from the fire line by the way

(102,136 posts)I still see the flames of the nearby fires in my mind from this summer. Evokes a very emotional response, though beautiful in a frightening way. No wonder arsonists get their sick thrill from watching their handiwork, I suppose.

(154,021 posts)and I am really wound up, like coming back from a busy EMS shift... I forgot that adrenalin kick.
We got nomex for the flying embers, which also kept us nice and toasty. I was also shooting with no tripod, (Hubby was using it with the D300), so out of 90 photos I got a few that were very usable... not bad. The really GOOD ones went to the editor already. (And one of them is shaky at best, as in literally a tad shaky, but if you reduce enough it could be usable) Hubby also got a few really good ones.

(154,021 posts)where do you think we started having break issues? Not a good spot.
It has that slight, forest fire smell to it.

(154,021 posts)First, Animal Control is working to feed\water\ evacuate animals, but residents have to physically go to the Red Cross shelter.
Second, fire is at 5% containment as of this morning.
And third... not really an update, just how lucky we were. We took the truck in the morning to the shop with break damage, well guess where it started to fail? Just the master cilinder. We were damn lucky.
Oh and promised news story... (I got something else to cover tonight, but will be on alert if this thing breaks out of that valley)

(154,021 posts)ugh... and we had to take the truck to the mechanic this morning with guess what? Brake problems....
Bad news bears, they have thunder and lighting in the area as I type. A few more strikes and it could be a nasty and long weekend.
Now the truck won't be ready for two more hours and I have something to attend in east county. not fire related... at six, will be damn close.
