Related: About this forumA few (?) fireworks...
It seems like one of the traditions I've had over the past seven years or so has been shooting one or another of the local fireworks displays, then rushing back to process the images through the night so that they could be posted here along with everyone else's photos from their own local displays throughout the country before morning. Well, I made the usual mad dash...but where were everybody else's? It seems we only got a couple of other members posting them this time around. Oh. well, I guess it's up to me to make up the shortage... (All these were taken, as has been the case for the past couple of years, at the Lake Wilderness celebration in Maple Valley.)

(22,380 posts)that these are the best ever? I scrolled a few times attempting to memorize favorites. Alas, it was not possible.
I'm so glad you posted these. I briefly thought about you and fireworks photos yesterday, and here they are!
I'm glad for ALL of them
On another note: You and I are the ones who were most verbal about not liking what they have done to make our contests more difficult and less fun. Though I reserve the right to continue with it if I feel like it, my kvetching about it has not brought any attention or recognition by those who could fix the situation; nor has a photographer's revolt been instigated.
I'm trying to silently say the serenity prayer and go on.
Bottom line, I want you to enter a photo for "Down by the River". Please. You have so many wonderful "water running over things photos", it's not the same without you being represented.
We Germans call it "jumping over our own shadows".

(26,044 posts)And I appreciate your requests that I submit to the July contest. However, I decided some time ago that, as long as the identities of which members voted for what photo was a matter of public record, I would not participate in the contests. This is due as much to my own personal weaknesses as anything else; the fact is, although I'm not particularly proud of it, I can have as much of a competitive streak as anyone else, and probably more than most; and if I really felt that a particular photo of mine didn't do as well as it deserved (on which subject, it may interest you to know that, even though photos of mine have won a few contests, the two photos I've entered that I personally thought were by far the best of any I'd submitted failed to come close to even making the finals), being able to identify who voted for what would be a temptation to which I really don't want to expose myself.
Even so, in this case, I wouldn't have been able to make the contest even if I'd decided to enter; the current project on which I'm working (the results of which will be displayed here very shortly) meant that I had to process and catalog 741 new images within a period of a few days -- and that was besides processing the images for this thread, which came up right in the middle of the work. Even if I'd wanted to, I wouldn't have had the time to select an entry! (Besides, from a look at the first-round polls, there are more than enough top-quality entries as it is; any more would be superfluous.)

(32,723 posts)I get to hear the booms in the distance. Every so often I'll be on the road and see them. Disneyland was some that blow up to show hearts in the sky.

(154,021 posts)we got all in 30 seconds, and even those of us who avoid them... studiously that is, felt as if this was an arty barrage... which in reality "it was."

(18,219 posts)May I ask, how do you get the colors so vibrant? Most photos I see of fireworks are always mostly just white light.

(28,454 posts)No attempts from me this year because Colorado is understandably under a state-wide fireworks ban. Most municipalities opted out from even having town displays. I'm hoping next year I can try again to match your mastery!
