A few more photos from our Fairbanks trip

I'm trying to post these just a few at a time so no one gets bored. Here are a few from the train.

This is the Knik River bridge. We're usually over there on the highway. I took the liberty of cloning out utility wires.


Little cabin in the woods - somewhere on the Palmer Hay Flats between Anchorage and Wasilla.


The Chugach Mountains, our home mountain range.


Denali foothills. These are the mountains at the base that are mostly 9,000-14,000 ft. I'll have some better pictures of the mountain itself later on. At this point in the trip, the top of Denali was hidden in clouds. I think this is the Big Susitna River here.


A creek near Talkeetna. Maybe Sheep Creek or Montana Creek, but I'm only guessing. I like all the little animal tracks. They probably appreciate the open water this warm winter.

2. I am in love with #3.

The Chugach Mountains. The photo captures so much dark and light. There is a mystery quality to it.

But that all are great. It looks like you had such a great trip.

3. It was a wonderful trip,

and I got so many good shots, lots of variety, too, since we were in Fairbanks wandering around for a few days. We also took a ride out to Chena Hot Springs, which is just an amazing little resort, almost totally energy self-sufficient, using the geothermal mostly. They have greenhouses and a great restaurant. And, of course, the hot springs that some hardy folks were enjoying (ambient temperature about 15 degrees). We're going to try to go up there next February and stay a night or two at the resort. I hear the auroras are outstanding.

4. If you go to Chena Hot Springs,

do brave the springs. I would. You just can't stay overnight there and not do it. That ambient temp was air temp, not water temp. How great would it be to sit in nice warm water and watch the auroras! Although I am freaking freezing now, and hate winter, that is tempting!

5. Oh, absolutely I'll do it.

I remember many years ago jumping in the hot springs at Steamboat Springs, Colorado, in the middle of February, temperature probably about the same. I can only hope that next February is as mild as this year -- sometimes it's -40 up there.

We are almost three feet below our average amount of snow for this time of year.
